WOODLAND BLIND SNAKE

Appearance

Has a dark brown, shiny appearance and extremely tiny eyes which are covered by scales. They grow to an average length of 50cm.

Habitat

Typical habitat includes forested areas with good cover of leaf litter, old large trees and fallen logs. Predominantly a nocturnal, burrowing snake which spends most of its life under deep leaf litter or underground.

Diet

Feeds entirely on ant larvae and pupae as well as termites and their eggs.

Breeding

This is an egg laying snake, and lays up to 35 eggs in the soil.

Not much is known about this snakes breeding habits, because it spends most of its time underground.

Predators

When at ground level, foxes and feral cats could prey on this snake.

Prey

Only preys on ant and termite nests.

Life expectancy
