DWYER’S SNAKE

Appearance

Brown bodied snake with a slender to medium build, with an average length of 31cm. Have vertical pupils.

Habitat

Nocturnal snake, that hides under rocks, debris and ground litter. May make its home in burrows made and abandoned by other creatures.

Open woodland and grassland areas are their typical habitat.

Diet

Feeds mainly on small lizards such as geckos and skinks.

Breeding

This species of snake do not lay eggs, instead they give birth to up tp 3 young, which are approx. 13cm in length.

Predators

Larger snakes and birds are the main predators.

When threatened this snake coils into a tight ball as a defence mechanism to protect its head and vulnerable areas of the body.

Prey

These snakes mainly prey on small reptiles.
