
BLACKISH BLIND SNAKE
Appearance
Brown/purplish in colour with a light pink on the belly. Can grow up to 57cm.
They are not actually blind, their small eyes are protected by scales from ant attack.
Habitat
This species lives most of its life underground.
After heavy rain, the snake may leave its burrow at night and search for food.
Diet
Feeds mostly on ants and termites underground, and the occasional worm.
Breeding
They mate in late spring and the females lay 5-20 grape-sized eggs in the summer.
Predators
Living mostly underground, this snake is mostly protected.
Prey
this is a non-venomous snake, and only preys on small underground insects such as ants.
